ABOUT CHILE

Chile is an adventure sports paradise. The north's Atacama Desert is vast, stark and breathtakingly beautiful. But that doesn't mean you have to rough it. The desert is also home to some world-class resorts and spas. Take a guided desert excursion, then return to relax in serene comfort. And don't forget to look up—some of the best stargazing on Earth is right here.

While it's summer in North America, it's ski season in Chile, with a number of world-class resorts offering fun for all ages and levels.

With a coastline that stretches for thousands of miles, and hosts almost as many inlets, bays and streams, Chile offers more than its fair share of aquatic-based adventure.

Torres del Paine National Park is a spectacular, 60,000 acre protected area. Lonely Planet calls the park's W circuit one of the best treks in the world. It's one of the best ways to get to know the Chilean Patagonia.

If all this adventure has conjured up an appetite, you're in luck. Not only is Chilean cuisine varied and rewarding, Chile is now recognized as one of the premiere wine producing countries in the world. There are 11 wine routes throughout Chile, each known for its signature grapes. Don't miss the Carménère from the Colchagua, the Sauvignon Blanc from Casablanca and the Cabernet from Maipo.
